“Intuition saved my life many times.”

So I have a question for you. How is your intuition?

That may sound like a weird question if you’ve never heard it before, but your intuition is a vital part of your well-being, just like your heart, your mind, your body, and your spirit. I would ask you, “How is your heart? I would ask you how you feel in your body. I would ask you how you are doing mentally, so I want to know, “How is your intuition? “

Some people would answer “I don’t know how my intuition is doing” because they don’t have a relationship with their intuition. They haven’t integrated their intuition into their well-being enough to be aware of its state in their lives. So let’s talk about intuition, what it means, how important it is, and how to strengthen it if it’s not doing well.

Understanding Intuition

Your intuition is your subconscious emotional information, instinctual knowing, feeling, and understanding. It lives in you.

Intuition is useful for decision-making, understanding, unpacking things without the need for reasoning, and staying aligned with the highest version of yourself. For me, intuition is how God communicates with me. It is how I stay plugged into my source. I have always been an intuitive being. I just didn’t know that was what I was experiencing. I didn’t know how significant it was. I’ve always had this internal dialogue with God. And so, because God lives with me in spirit and in truth, it isn’t a tangible relationship like the one I have with my family or friends. I had to figure out a way to keep the relationship going, or I would say I had to uncover how God kept the relationship going with me. If you are in my space, you know I am a God girl, and this is not triggering you. Right? Right.

How Intuition Saved My Life

So there are several examples of how intuition has saved my life, but there is one that was defining. It made me decide to stick close to and care for my intuition all the days of my life.

It was this one time in college, and remember, I have been an intuitive person my entire life. So I can go back to when I was seven, ten, or even thirteen. But this one period in particular, my friend Hiram and I would get Chinese food or chicken wings from Crown Chicken. And we would get a Pepsi from the corner store. This wasn’t something we’d do daily, so it was a treat.

While passing each other in the hallway, he said, “I’m getting ready to go out. You wanna go?” And I said, “Yeah, I’ll go. You know, I want a Pepsi.”

I can always use a Pepsi. But something in me, as I was getting ready to go, said, “Don’t go.” My boyfriend at the time was planning to come by, so that was one reason I was hesitant. But something else in me was like, Don’t go. Eventually, I called Hiram to tell him I wasn’t gonna go. I don’t remember if I told him to bring me back a Pepsi. But he went off to the store. He went down the elevator, out the back door of the dorm room, down the street to his car. And moments later, I heard what I now know were gunshots going off.

Literal gunshots.

And I said, What’s that? And the people around me said it sounded like gunshots. Moments later, we found out that Hiram had been murdered.

If it wasn’t for my intuition, I would have taken that trip down the elevator, out the back door of the dorm, down the road to Hiram’s car, and I could have been killed with him. But I listened to my intuition, without a need for reasoning or anything. Something in me said don’t go and I didn’t go. That is one of the only reasons why I am here talking to you today.

Intuition saved my life many other times since then. Like the time I almost died after giving birth to my daughter. Like another time, I decided not to take a trip. Like another time, I decided not to take a job. Like another time, I decided not to move forward with a business partnership.

Intuition is a lifesaver. And it is the way God has been communicating with me all of my life. I realize now that not everyone has that kind of relationship with their intuition. I’ve been working with my kids on strengthening their intuition. I always work with my clients on strengthening their intuition. And I make sure I work with myself on maintaining a good relationship with my intuition.

4 Ways To Strengthen Your Intuition

Prioritize intuition in your life.

You need to call upon your intuition more often than reason. One of the ways that I learn to commune with my intuition is by asking myself, my inner self, my inner guidance, or God questions regularly. Trivial questions like, “Where should I park?” “What should I eat?” “Which product should I buy?” “Which green pepper should I purchase?” “Which route should I take home from work?” Engaging your intuition and questioning is how you call upon it more often. That is what will show up in your life instead of fear and anxiety, instead of always feeling like you don’t know what to do. Your intuition will invite itself into conversations in your life.

Recognize how intuition speaks to you specifically.

Is it a sensation that you feel in your body? Is it visuals? Is it an emotional response? Or like me, is it confirmation? I often share how God uses confirmation in my life because God knows that I need confirmation. I need some form of a cosign. I need it to be tangible. I need it to be relevant.

For example, I’ll think something or make a decision, and I’ll turn on a TV, and there’ll be a conversation on the news about it. A song will be played on the radio. A friend will text me out of the blue about it. So you have to recognize how your intuition speaks to you. Also, intuition comes to me in my body. I get a sensation. I’ll feel this shallow breathing, this flutter, this disconnect in my heart space. It’s not in my gut for me. It’s usually in my heart. I am a sacral being anyway, so that is natural for me.

But how does your intuition speak to you?

Keep an intuition journal.

For me, it’s a journal, a specific journal. The only thing I use it for is major thoughts, feelings, and emotions. So, not I’m tired or I’m angry, but I can’t get past this… I can’t get over or through this one thing. I can’t decide on this… And then maybe days later, I’ll go back and read what I wrote, and suddenly, I’ll know what to do. Suddenly, I’ll be aware of what I feel. Suddenly, I’ll understand the work that is necessary in this season of my life. I call it my intuition journal.

Engage in mindfulness.

I would also invite you to get in your body. That is a mindful practice. That is how you become aware of what you are feeling and thinking, That is how you are able to respond to what your intuition is saying. Mindfulness is the act of being present to your life right now. So you’re not in the future, and you’re not in the past. You are where you are right now in life. Mind, body, and spirit—and intuition is there.

When you reside in the space you are in in the moment, you get answers. You get feelings, you get moments, and you don’t miss anything. So mindfulness is how you strengthen your intuition.

Strengthening Your Intuition: Reflective Questions

To further deepen your relationship with your intuition, consider asking yourself the following questions regularly:

  • Does this sit right with my spirit?
  • Does this feel right in my body?
  • How is my body responding to this situation?
  • Do I feel a need to pause before making a decision?

Final Thoughts

Remember, your intuition speaks without a need for reasoning. You don’t need a reason for it in the moment.

I had no “reason” not to go to the store. The store run would have taken all of 15 to 20 minutes. And running to get some Pepsi and Swedish fish was one of my favorite things to do. But I said no because my intuition said, “No,” and I didn’t need any other reason. Hiram didn’t ask me for one.

I can still remember how I felt during the press conference. The news came to the school. All I was thinking in my head was, thank you, God. Thank you, God. Thank you, God. Thank you, God, for saving me. And I thanked myself for being willing to listen to the voice of God, to listen to my intuition.

Thank you, God.

If you are especially anxious, fearful, and sitting in a season of “I don’t know”, now would be a really good time to strengthen your intuition. I’ll review the questions with you. Does this sit right with my spirit? Does this feel right right now? How is my body responding to it? And do I feel a need to pause? Those questions, your relationship with your intuition, could quite literally save your life.

I’ll end with the question I asked you in the beginning. How is your intuition, beloved? And if you don’t know, it is time to get to know.

Until next time, Beloved. I hope this helps.
