“Just focus on the things that you can actually see right in front of you.”

Today, I am sharing a practice that I’ve leaned into for over a decade.

When I struggle to see myself in the future, need to envision a fresh start, get bored with the same old routine, or need a creative boost, I simply imagine my ideal day.

Tune into this guided practice.

Your Ideal Day

Sometimes, particularly after a very difficult season in our lives, we struggle to see ourselves better.

Often, we struggle with the idea that life can be better than it’s been, or that we can experience something good after such a horrible season. And I developed this visualization exercise that has been so helpful in being able to see myself in the future, even after a difficult season.

Here it is: I want you to close your eyes (if you can) with me, and I want you to imagine your ideal day. Not your ideal life, not your ideal bank account, not your ideal body, but I want you to imagine just your ideal day, focusing solely on a single day.

Imagine what your life looks like as soon as you open your eyes early in the morning. Imagine your sheets in your bed, your blankets. Imagine what the room looks like, the colors, the smell. Imagine what the light looks like shining in on you from the outside. And then I want you to imagine the very next thing that you’d want to do.

Before you get out of your bed, do you pray and meditate? Do you just sit back and relax and think about how grateful you are to see the day? Before you start thinking about the struggle, the things that you have to accomplish, what would you want to think about as early as you can imagine in the morning? And then I want you to get out of bed and move forward with your day.

When you’re able to do this exercise alone, you can imagine every single moment, but just with me, today, imagine what you’re doing after you’ve gotten out of bed, after you’ve washed up and gotten ready and dressed, and you’ve groomed yourself for the day. What are you doing? Where are you going? Are you working out or going to work? Are you hanging out with friends or hanging out with family?

Visualizing what your life looks like minute to minute, moment by moment will take the pressure off of figuring every single thing out about your life and allow you just to focus on the things that you can actually see right in front of you, things that you can actually control right in front of you, and things that we often overlook, but are a huge part of improving and mastering the quality of our lives.

Now open your eyes… What did you see happening in your life every morning?

Once you’ve envisioned every detail of your ideal morning, I invite you to think about what you would like to see in your life in the afternoon and in the evenings. Who you’re with, what you’re eating, what your house looks like, what you’re doing, and how you feel. Recreate that feeling you get from envisioning your best life, your idle day, by doing the things that inspired it.

Create those moments in your reality. What can you do with the resources that you have, the mindset that you have, the heart that you have? What can you do to start creating those moments in your life every day?

We can struggle to see ourselves in the future and imagine the life we want and deserve when we’re thinking about life as a whole and overlooking the everyday moments that we actually have control over. Your ideal life starts with your ideal day. If you can iamgine it, you can amke it happen.

So when you feel lost, don’t know what to do or where to go, and you can’t see yourself in the future, borrow this visualization exercise and imagine your ideal day.

Until next time, beloved, I hope this helps.
